If you've ever wanted to
draw life like portraits, here's your chance.Upload any photo
and let me turn it into a numbered (Paint By Number
style) outline. Then, over a span of 1-3 hours,
you use a standard box of crayons to color in the
outline to create a life like self-portrait.
Crayoning the outline takes 1-3
hours and consists of coloring each numbered
region with the appropriate crayon as called for
in the crayon / number chart. A palette of just
6-10 crayons can deliver a surprising degree of
realism in the finished artwork.
Crayon By Number has the same
appeal as paint by number with some added
benefits:
The only art supplies
required are a standard box of crayons.
-
No messy paints - Cleanup consists of just putting crayons away!
The subject of the
drawing is just a bit more personal...,
YOU!
Crayon By Number is well
suited for use by Home Educators, Teachers, and
Counselors for several reasons. Turn around on converting photos
to outlines takes very little time, yet, the
children will enjoy the project for 1-3 hours.
The artistic playing field is leveled - students
who had previously struggled with art now have a
chance to shine. Perhaps most importantly,
creating life-like self-portraits, should spark
high class participation / interest.
Try these ideas for an art
project:
Annually, create a self
portrait from your class photo - a unique
way to chronicle both your appearance and
artistic development.
Create a self portrait as
a gift for your parent.
As a class project,
download fine art from a museum's online
collection. Process the art into Crayon
By Number and let each student render a
different work. Then hold a gallery walk
giving each student a chance to discusses
his/her painting.
Young Entrepreneurs! If
you have access to a digital camera (or
just use a scanner), set up a booth at a
school carnival - and charge a nominal
fee to create Crayon By Number outlines
for other kids.
Requirements
- Photo must be less than 1mB in size .
- A printer
- Box of 64 count Crayola Crayons.
